Fostering

Please note: To foster there will be terms and conditions. This is to safeguard you, your own cats and our foster cats.

We pride ourselves on taking in the needy – the cats and kittens that do need help including the sick and injured.

Some things to bear in mind before you apply:

• Please don’t think you will always get cute, cuddly kittens or cats. Some come in feral and need taming, others come in sick, injured, blind, disabled and need correct care.
• You must be able to drive to the vets and back for routine appointments or emergency appointments.
• You need to understand and keep track of all flea and worming.
• Keeping vet appointments is crucial. The vets we use are based around, Leigh, Wigan, Bolton and St Helens and you must be able to get there yourself routinely and in the event of an emergency
• You must provide a 14 day isolation period for your foster cat/s, not mixing with any other animals until we know that Cat / kitten is healthy and vaccinated (unless this has already been carried out)
• You must be able to pick up your own cat / kitten supplies from Hindley Green in Wigan as and when you need it.
• All equipment and food will be provided
• People who are adopting will want to come and see the cats / kittens, are you happy opening up your home to potential adoptees?
• A home check will be carried out before we approve a foster application
• If you have your own cats these must be fully vaccinated and proof by vaccination card is a must. We will be unable to process your application if the cats are not fully vaccinated. You will be bringing cats in your home that could be carrying anything and you will need to protect your own cats.
• Your own cats must be up to date with flea /wormer with vet purchased products not shop bought products as they don’t work effectively (even if your cats are indoor they still need treating – you can carry fleas / ticks on your feet/ persons other animals that do go outdoors. Worms can come from food and an indoor cat will need to be wormed twice a year ).
• You will be given a mentor to show you through the whole process with how we work. CG processes may differ from past rescue experience you may have had.

Volunteering

We are always looking for people to fundraise for us in any way and have an active fundraising team

We don’t have a centre for people to attend to volunteer as we are a home based rescue but if you think there is something you can offer us that doesn’t fall under fostering or fundraising, complete the volunteer form anyway and we can chat!

And finally…

Fostering and any form of involvement rescue is emotionally challenging. Please ensure you have support around you – as a busy team we try to support the best we can but our focus will always be on the cats. We encourage anyone getting involved in rescue to only do so for the good of the cats and not to meet their own needs as this is rarely successful. You need a healthy reserve of emotional resilience – rescue is hard but so worth it!
